STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866-3567
FAX: (303) 832-8106
INTEROFFICE
MEMORANDUM
TO: Joe Dudash
FROM: Jim Star
SUBJECT: Bowie No. 2 Mine MR-123 Cost Estimate
DATE: 4 May 2011
COLORADO
D I V IS I ON OF
RECLAMATION
MINING
SAFETY
John W. Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Loretta E. Pineda
Director
Attached is the reclamation cost estimate for the Bowie No. 2 Mine's Minor Revision
123 - 6 gob vent boreholes. The estimate is eight tasks (a summary sheet and tasks 271-
277) and represents an increase in liability of $98,074.00. Bowie is currently under-
bonded by $125,607.00 so they will need to submit additional bond monies prior to
implementing this revision.
The Division's estimate is $53,773 more than the estimated submitted by BRL (of
$44,301.00). One reason is that BRL uses an hourly dozer cost of $90.00/hour when the
actual dozer cost is $198.57/hour. Additionally, BRL does not include a cost for topsoil
replacement on the pads and roads (a direct cost of $6,735.00). Finally, BRL only has a
cost for reseeding of one drill pad (0.92 acres) instead of the required six drill pads (a
direct cost difference of $8,751.00).
I did notice one possible error in the cover letter and revision application. BRL states
that the new disturbance will be 8.1 acres. I have calculated the disturbance a 9.26 acres.
BRL is proposing 6 drill pads with nominal dimensions of 200'x200' (0.92 acres each for
a total of 5.51 acres) and 6,811' for road, nominally 24' wide (for a total of 3.75 acres).
Please have BRL check their calculations and submit a corrected revision application if
necessary.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need any additional information.
cc: Sandy Brown w/out Attachments
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
