The
tailings were placed in two historic prospect pits, the Cy Eaton shaft and the White Cloud shaft. In
addition, tailings were placed into the Cash 3rd Level Adit of the Cash and Who Do Mines (M-1983-141).
The Division collected tailings samples from the Cy Eaton shaft and from the tailings pond. The samples
were analyzed using the synthetic precipitation leaching procedure (SPLP) at the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) laboratory located in Golden, Colorado.
The Division received the SPLP analytical results from the EPA in September of 2009. The analytical
results showed antimony and thallium were elevated above numeric standards for Domestic Water Supply
as determined by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Based on the above
referenced analytical results, the Division has determined additional sampling of tailings material will be
required before a decision is made regarding final reclamation of the tailings disposal locations.
The Operator shall collect one tailing sample from the Cy Eaton Shaft and three samples from the tailings
pond. The samples shall be analyzed using the acid-base accounting (ABA) procedure and the results
shall be reported to the Division on or before April 15, 2011.
If you have any questions, please call me at (303) 866-3567 x8116.
Sincerely,
Y Michael A.
