The proposed addition will be a two-story addition that will tie-in with
the existing building, with a 34 x 32.5 foot Ambulance Bay and Medical Room, and a 34 x 32.5 foot
Crew Briefing Room on the first level, and a 34 x 48 foot office space on the second level (the
Ambulance Bay will extend the full two-stories). The addition is needed to provide for indoor-parking of
the Mine ambulance, in order to assure that the ambulance is operable and ready for service under all
weather conditions, to provide a dedicated location for evaluation and treatment of employee health issues
and injuries, and to provide additional space for operational activities and offices. The location of the
proposed addition is shown on Map 24, Surface Facilities and Freshwater Systems, with specifications
and configuration details provided by drawings in Exhibit 49B Bathhouse Expansion Design Drawings.
Installation of the proposed Ambulance/Medical Room Addition will involve the following:
? Removal of existing asphalt pavement from footprint of building addition
? Foundation preparation (limited excavation, placement of suitable fill material, and compaction)
? Installation of helical screw pilings to support the floor slab
? Installation of drain-lines for the floor drain in the Ambulance Bay and a sanitary drain in the
Medical Room, and connection to the existing wastewater system(sub-grade)
? Construction of a poured concrete floor slab with in-floor heating
? Installation of the pre-fabricated modular steel building addition, tying into the existing building
? Completion of required plumbing, electrical, and interior finish work for the addition
It is anticipated that construction of the building addition will be completed over a 4-6 week time period
following receipt of required permit approvals.
Because the building addition will be located in an existing disturbance area, there will be no new
disturbance associated with the project, and drainage from this area is already controlled by existing
drainage and sediment control systems. Associated reclamation requirements and costs will be limited to
removal of the modular building and demolition of the concrete foundation and disposal of the resulting
debris. Backfilling, regrading, soil replacement, and revegetation will occur as part of the overall mine
facilities reclamation project (previously permitted).
G:\Environmental\REVISION\MINOR-RV\MR10-252 Ambulance Addition\MR11-252 Ambulance Addition TL.doc
1 'AMWO&Ow r }- . .
