Cramer, Johanna
From: Boulay, Mike
Sent: Wednesday, December 08, 2010 10:08 AM
To: Cramer, Johanna
Cc: Brown, Sandy
Subject: FW: Oxbow MR -93
Attachments: Oxbow MR -93 Surface Use.docx
Here is the e-mail from the USFS that I told you about. Please soon both the message from
Ryan (below) and the attachment (above) in Elk Creek Mine Permit o. C-1981-022, - . Let
me know if you have any questions.
From: Ryan Z Taylor [mai Ito: rztaylor(a)fs.fed.us]
Sent: Tuesday, December 07, 2010 12:12 PM
To: Boulay, Mike; Jim.Kiger(a)oxbow.com
Cc: Levi Broyles; Daniel E Gray
Subject: Oxbow MR -93
The Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forest (GMUG) has completed its review of Oxbow Mining's MR-
93. In MR -93, two (2) gob ventilation boreholes would be drilled on existing drill pads on National Forest (NF) Lands. As a
result of our review of the adequacy of measures to protect federal resources and the post mining land use, we identified
that the project impacts are similar to that as analyzed in Oxbow's previous TR -64 and TR -65. Attached list of conditions
are needed to protect federal resources and support the post mining land use of aspen management, as defined by the
GMUG forest plan, which are identical to the conditions submitted for the previous TRs.
Of note is that several conditions relate to operations in an inventoried roadless area (IRA). These are needed to satisfy
direction we received to minimize entry into, and alteration of the inventoried roadless area. As part of our review, we
assessed that no new road construction or surface disturbance is necessary in the inventoried roadless area.
Please contact me with any questions you may have.
Regards,
Ryan
Ryan Z.
