Pineda
Director
The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (the Division) has received a copy of
the 2009 Annual Reclamation Report for Minrec, Inc's North Thompson Creek Mine. Thank you
for your timely submittal of this report. The original disturbed area for the North Thompson
Creek Mine was 65.2 acres. Of this area all of the acreage has undergone a Phase I and a Phase II
Bond Release. An additional 61.1 acres have undergone a Phase III Bond Release. The
remaining 4.1 acres are in long-term facilities or have been reclaimed for 10 years or less. No
reclamation or sampling activities were performed during the 2009 reporting year.
During the 2009 reporting year the Division partially approved North Thompson Creek's Phase
III (final) Bond Release, SL-06, for the site. The Division received the SL-06 application on 10
October 2006, deemed it complete on 12 January 2007 and proposed a decision to partially
approve the application on 22 December 2009. The proposed decision became final on 25
January 2010. The approval of SL-06 released all but 4.1 of the 65.2 disturbed acres, 2,924.9 of
the 3,336.0 permitted acres (leaving 411.1 permitted acres) and 0.2 affected acres (leaving 411.1
affected acres). The Division subsequently approved Technical Revision 25, which changed the
permitted acreage to 1,086.0 acres, and updated the mine's legal description and permit boundary
map (Drawing D-3-19). The North Thompson Mine's current bond liability is $10,000.00.
The Division does not have any questions or comments regarding the North Thompson Creek
2009 Annual Reclamation Report.
Sincerely,
James R Stark
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Sandy Brown
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
