Vholcim (US) Inc.
3500 Highway 120
Florence, CO 81226
Attn: Mike Toelle ?j
duly 15, 2010

Mike,
The Dilts Quarry and Boettcher Sandstone Quarry were surveyed July 2010 for weed infestations. No noxious
weeds were found at the Dilts Quarry, so no hours were invoiced for spray application at this site. The
Boettcher Sandstone Quarry was surveyed, substantial stands of Scotch thistle (Ohopordum acanthium) were
found and treated with Tordon (picloram) applied at .1 quartlacre.
The Boettcher Limestone Quarry was extensively surveyed, and weed infestations treated during the
spring/summer 2010. The primary noxious weed species present were leafy spurge (Euphorbia esula) and
Canada thistle (Circium arvense). Both species are more visible when in flower early in the season, and more
effective to treat at that time. Unfortunately, extensive infestations of leafy spurge were discovered on the
southwest portion of the quarry. The sites were treated with the most effective herbicides available, but such
dense, mature stands require subsequent herbicide application to be eliminated. I hope you will continue with
aggressive efforts to manage these weeds in the future. Neighbors in the area observed the county weed crew
working at the quarry and were very pleased that Holcim was taking action to manage noxious weeds. With
cooperation from landowners in this area, we hope the spread leafy spurge will soon be stopped and existed
infestations eliminated.
Tim D'Amato
Land Stewardship Manager
Larimer County Department of Natural Resources
PO Box 1190
Ft.
