STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866-3567
FAX: (303) 832-8106
DATE: February 9, 2010
TO: Mike Boulay, Kent Gorham and Marcia Talvitie
COLORADO
DIVISION OF
RECLAMATION
MINING
SAFETY
Bill Ritter, Jr.
Governor
James B. Martin
Executive Director
FROM: Joe Dudas
RE: Bowie No. e, Permit No. C-1996-083, Bowie Resources LLC,
Technical Revision No. 65, Amend B-Seam Mine Plan and Add Geotech Hole,
Adequacy Review Responses
Bowie Resources LLC (BRL) has submitted their responses to the Division's January 8, 2010 adequacy
review letter for Technical Revision No. 65 (TR-65) for the Bowie No. 2 Mine. I am requesting your
assistance in the review of BRL's response submittal. As you remember, BRL is proposing to construct
mains to the west under Terror Creek and between two high voltage transmission line towers. BRL is also
proposing to room and pillar mine in an area that lies to the north of the current mains and adjacent to
Terror Creek. Finally, BRL is proposing to drill a geotechnical hole in anticipation of constructing a vent
shaft on the west side of Terror Creek (BRL is now exploring a location on the east side of Terror Creek).
The questions in the Division's January 8, 2010 adequacy review letter were divided as follows:
Mike Boulay -------Questions Nos. 1 through 4.
Kent Gorham-------Question No. 11 (Public Notice of the Mining Schedule)
Marcia Talvitie ----Questions Nos. 14 through 19 (answered with the submittal of a new overburden
stability report)
The decision due date for TR-65 was extended to March 5. I would appreciate getting your response
review memos back by Thursday, February 25, 2010. A complete copy of BRL's TR-65 response
submittal, dated February 3, 2010 and received at the Division on February 5, 2010, has been scanned
under TR-65 for Bowie No. 2. The submittal cover letter, new overburden stability report and revised
pages were scanned under doc name "Adequacy Response No. 1" with a doc date of 2/5/2010 and a time
stamp of 2/9/2010. Revised Maps 7, 8, 9, 25 and 27 were scanned under their individual doc names with
the 2/5/2010 doc date and the 2/9/2010 time stamp. If anyone would like a hardcopy of any of the
material, please let me know. Thanks for your assistance!
cc: Sandy Brown
Dan Hernandez
c: /word2007/bowie2/tr65 memo2
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
