RECEIVED
N 0 4 2010
To: Berhan I?effelew, DRMS
From: Mike Ellis, CC&V
Memorandum
Division of Reclamatlon,
Mining & Safety
Date: 12-28-09
sect: Back-up Information for TR 55 - Revised Backfill Plan Financial
Warranty Justification
You requested that I send along some back-up information for your files with respect to
the financial warranty determination we made for the revised backfilling plan. Attached
are a couple of "sketch-maps" that show the Amendment 9 post-mining topo compared
with the new revised backfill and how it affects the post-mining topo. You can see from
these comparison "sketch-maps" there is no need to increase the financial warranty due to
the following:
• Squaw Overburden Storage Area is 105 ft. lower under the new plan compared to
the Am. #9 post-mining topo, resulting in significantly less work to be done to
accomplish final grading.
• Less grading will also be required in East Cresson (Altman) due to filling higher
on the slopes around the "10,775 Knob".
• The north side of the Main Cresson Pit will have 2.5H to IV slopes versus 2H to
IV slopes in Am. #9, and the overburden placement will be done so as to
facilitate much easier revegetation, thereby reducing costs.
• There will be no change to any of the other mine areas with respect to backfilling
(i.e., Wildhorse Extension, Globe Hill, or Schist Island).
I trust this information will be sufficient to meet your needs. Please call me at 719-689-
4056 if you have any questions.
Attachments: Sketch Maps of Am. 9 and Revised Backfill Post-Mining Topography
