2008 Annual Hydrology Report, Adequacy Review
Dear Mr. Kiger:
The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) has finished its review of the 2008 Annual
Hydrology Report (AHR) for the Elk Creek Mine. The Division has the following questions and comments:
Hydrologic Monitoring
The hydrologic data sheet for surface water monitoring site E-2 does not show any full suite laboratory
data for 2008, even though the hydrologic monitoring schedule on page 5 of the 2008 AHR shows that a
full suite analysis is required for the 2"d and 3rd quarters, if a sample is available. Please explain.
2. The hydrologic data sheet for surface water monitoring site NF-1 does not show any 4th quarter 2008
data for a full suite analysis, as required by the hydrologic monitoring schedule on page 5 of the 2008
AHR. Please explain this omission.
The hydrologic data sheet for ground water monitoring site EC-14, listed as E-14 on the data sheet, does
not show any 3rd quarter full suite analysis for 2008, even though this is required by the hydrologic
monitoring schedule shown on page 5 of the 2008 AHR. Please explain this omission.
Compliance With Surface Water and Ground Water Standards
The Division's review of the 2008 AHR did not reveal any exceedences, nor any trends towards exceedances, of
receiving stream and ground water standards. Comparison of data from up gradient monitoring sites to that of
down gradient monitoring sites did not show any degradation of water quality or quantity. No problems were
noted with water levels in the monitoring wells.
