My decision will allow the Gallegos Corporation to remove up to 1,244 tons of
decorative rock between June 21 and October 31 each year within an initial 5.86-acre area
located at TI IS, R88W, Section 21, near Marble, Colorado.
,/
Authorization to remove rock will be granted through a Forest Service Contract for the Sale of
Mineral Materials, which expires after one calendar year. Additional contracts can be issued and
will be subject to the company submitting a new request each year and re-evaluation by the
Forest Service. Gallegos Corporation will also need to obtain necessary permits and clearance
from the State of Colorado and Gunnison County before removing any material from this area.
Enclosed is the decision notice and finding of no significant impact (DN/FONSI). This
document: 1) provides more details about the selected alternative, including additional
stipulations to address noise and visual impacts; 2) provides my rationale for choosing that
alternative; 3) documents that there is no significant impact on the human environment and
explains why an environmental impact statement is not necessary; and 4) explains the
administrative appeal process.
I would like to thank you for taking the time to review the environmental assessment and
providing me meaningful comments on the proposed action. I considered the many concerns
raised as well as ideas offered and these comments helped shape my final decision.
Sincerely,

IRENE L.
