IX. EXHIBIT I - SOILS INFORMATION
The soils information provided to fulfill DRMS requirements for Exhibit I
includes general U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Soil Conservation information,
related general geologic information, and site-specific geotechnical boring log data
collected to evaluate the reserve potential of the new expansion area properties and the
existing plant site area, the two new areas not presently permitted or planned for mining,
respectively. The following summary of soils information is supported by data excerpted
from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (formerly Soil Conservation
Service), "Soil Survey of Adams County, Colorado, dated January 8, 2007." Soil survey
information was taken from the USDA Web Soil Survey 2.0 online system during
October 2007.
Included in Exhibit C is a map (Figure C5, Exhibit C (h) - Soils Information) that
shows the site property boundary superimposed on a portion of the referenced USDA
Soil Survey. A map legend and map soil unit legend is also included both on the map
included in Exhibit C.
The distribution of the relevant mapped soil units is shown on the map provided
based on the USDA data. Supplemental USDA soils information available for the
mapped soil units, but not provided in detail herein includes data for:
1) rangeland productivity and characteristic plant communities;
2) wildlife habitat;
3) recreational development;
4) engineering index properties;
5) chemical properties:
6) physical properties;
7) water features;
8) soil features:
9) construction materials characteristics; and
10) hydric soils list information for the site soil units described above.
Three different soil map units are located on the new expansion area described in this
amendment. The map units are in southwest- northeast trending bands roughly parallel to
44
