cortei-
RECEIVED
JAN 16 2009
GRAND ,1U?vt;r CL'DOFFICE
December 8; .2008. DIVISION OF
RECLAMATION MINING & SAFETY
Russ Means
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety
Grand Junction Field Office RECEIVED
101 S. Third St, Room 301
Grand Junction, Colorado 81501 JAN / 2009
?? Division cf reclamation,
RE: Follow up to JD-8 and SM-18 Inspections Mining and Safety
M - ??lScf , C?l? ?? I??Ie.?t?til ?
Mr. Means: P8
This letter is written as a follow-up to the DRMS inspections of the JD-8 and SM-18
mine facilities on April 2, 2008.
During the inspection at the JD-8 mine facility it was recommended that Cotter
Corporation do some stormwater runoff control in the area of the main access road above
the mine dump. That work was accomplished in the spring of this year using a front-end
loader to re-grade the access road. We are still re-building our road grader, and once that
is finished we plan to re-grade the road using the grader.
During the site inspection at the SM-18 mine it was recommended that we take some
steps to prevent public access onto the mine dump and the mine office areas, and do some
maintenance work on the ore catchment runoff area and the diversion ditch west of the
mine dump. This summer a berm was placed across the access points to the mine dump
area, and a cable was placed across the access to the mine office area. The ore catchment
area and the diversion ditch around the mine dump were maintained using a skid-steer
loader this spring, but will require a little more work in the near future.
If you have further questions regarding these issues, please call me at Cotter's Nucla
office, 970-864-7347.
Respectfully,/
Glen Williams
Manager of Mining
Cotter Corporation
CoftersCorporation 01 -West Slope Operations
P.O.
