Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division has reviewed the permit Amendment application for the Parkdale Quarry, MLRD
Permit # M-1997-054, and has the following initial comments.
I) Introduction.
The Amendment proposes to increase the mining limit and depth for both the granite
quarry and the sand and gravel operation. It also proposes to change the post mining land
use for both sites to be water storage rather than rangeland/wildlife habitat as currently
approved. No changes to the existing 3 acre, sandstone quarry. The sand and gravel site
mining depth will change to mine below water table. Mining high wall to be 40 foot with 20
foot benches final Pit slopes configuration to be 3:1 or gentler below water line.
The granite quarry covering 64.3 acres is proposed to be expanded to approximately 83
acres with 72.5 acres to be affected. Depth of mining will go from the current 5780 depth to
5300 feet an increase in depth of 480 feet. Once mining is completed the sand and gravel pit
will be clay lined and used as water storage at later date, and the quarry will also serve as
such but will not be clay lined. The 40 foot bench with 50 foot high wall will be filled with
water up to 5800 feet. At present, the operator, under tier water substitute supply plan
approved by SEO, only has enough water to account for consumptive evaporative. The
operator feels they should have no problem finding an entity that has adequate water
supply to purchase both pits once it is reclaimed as proposed.
II) EXHIBIT C Mining and Pre-Mining plan Map.
1) Has the operator included all roads, buildings, oil & gas wells, lines of any kind
including power lines on the area to be affected and with in 200 feet of all boundaries of
such area ? If not, please provide a map showing all those listed above in the per-
mining plan map.
1 Office
Office of of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
