At this time there are a few questions that must be answered before this
office may consider approving the technical revision. Please provide adequate responses to the items
listed below.
1. What is the approximate present volume of topsoil in the new topsoil pile?
2. What is the configuration of the stockpile, such as side slope gradient and height?
3. How will potential water erosion of the topsoil be controlled, such as seeding? If seeding is
planned, please provide the seeding specifications.
4. How will sediment transport from the stockpile be controlled, such as use of silt fence?
5. Is more topsoil anticipated to be added to the stockpile in the future? If so, please describe the
anticipated stockpile configuration, such as area and height. If more topsoil is anticipated to be
generated, but not placed in this stockpile area, where will future topsoil be placed?
6. Is there a specific portion of the affected area where the topsoil in this pile will be respread during
final reclamation? If so, please describe it and also depict it on a revised reclamation map.
This office is pleased that Denison is carefully salvaging topsoil to enhance its future reclamation,
during its present mining operations. However (and this should not be interpreted to unduly punish
Denison for the extra reclamation efforts of topsoil salvage) this office may recalculate the bond
amount to account for a larger topsoil replacement task. If there is a significant difference, I will send
you the figures for review.
COLORADO
D I V I S I O N O F
RECLAMATION
MINING
SAFETY
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
