Sherman
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (the Division) is seeking a location in
San Luis to host three public meetings regarding the amendment application to the reclamation
permit held by Battle Mountain Resources. The Division has received numerous objections to the
amendment application from the citizens of San Luis and the citizens have requested that all
public meetings for these proceedings occur in San Luis.
The gymnasium of the Centennial School District R-1 is available for such meetings. One of the
contractual agreements of the School District requires the Division to ensure that security for
each of the meetings is overseen by a licensed law officer. Therefore, the Division is inquiring as
to the availability of licensed law officers of the Costilla County Sheriff's Office to oversee
security.
The meetings are scheduled for April 15, 2008, commencing at 4:30 PM and concluding by 9:00
PM; May 28, 2008, commencing at 9:00 AM and concluding by 5:00 PM; and June 11-12, 2008,
commencing at 9:00 AM and concluding by 9:00 PM.
The June 11-12, 2008 meeting will include the Formal Board Hearing for the application, where
the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board (the Board) will consider the application with
objections and may make a decision to approve or deny the application. During the two-day
Board meeting on June 11th and 12th, the Board may consider other mining related issues in
addition to the amendment application from Battle Mountain Resources.
The May 28, 2008 meeting is the Pre-hearing Conference, designed to prepare all parties and
interested persons for the Formal Board Hearing in June.
The April 15, 2008 meeting is an informal meeting, intended to introduce and explain the
Division's review process of the amendment application and to answer any questions the public
may have.
Office of
Office of
nonio-r • C:ranrl Innrtinn • ntiranan Artiva and Inactive Mines
D-1-f;-
AA:....4 1 -4 D-1
