On
September 16, 2008, Powertech submitted Modification No. 1 to the previously approved prospecting notice.
Modification No. 1 provides notice for drilling one prospecting hole to sample the targeted mineral deposits
located approximately six miles west of the town of Nunn in Weld County. This hole will be plugged and
abandoned immediately following drilling. Modification No. 1 further provides notice for the drilling of 15
more monitoring wells for the collection of ground water samples and geologic, hydrogeologic information.
Since submittal of Modification No. 1, the Division has issued, and Powertech has responded" to an adequacy
review. Through this process, Powertech has committed to testing drill hole mud pits for radioactivity and
removing materials that do not meet specified limits, for offsite disposal. Powertech will post $127,000
additional bond, based on the Division's estimate. The entirety of Modification No. 1 is public information.
A number of other minor issues with Modification No. 1 were resolved through the adequacy review process.
The Division staff has determined that the notice is now acceptable and recommends that you authorize its
approval.
~ ~~_ ~ / ~t~ X ~~'CG'-mot
~~~'
c:\acs files\My Documents 4-19-06 thty\centennia108 not mod 1 status memo.doc
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver Grand Junction + Durango Active and Inactive Mines
