Monitoring Wells- November 2008.
Dear Mr. Waldron:
This letter serves as our last report for the monitoring well project around Carma Bayshore
Reservoir. Our task with this project was to provide one year of water level data monitoring to
determine if mounding was occurring around this lined reservoir. This - letter summary. will
summarize our monitoring well investigation over the past year.
Carina installed three monitoring wells along 'the northwest perimeter of the. Carina Bayshore
Reservoir on November 29, 2007, see Figure 1. The purpose of this monitoring well program is to -
determine the effectiveness of the perimeter drain adjacent to the reservoir that was slurry-wall lined.
The perimeter drain was installed on the north and west side of the liner to promote adequate
draining and to prevent mounding north of the reservoir. This perimeter drain daylights to St..Vram
Creek, which is on the south side of the reservoir.
Our monitoring has included monthly recording.of the water level in the wells in relationship to the
elevation of the drain and report if the well water level rises over one foot above the top of the drain
pipe level. We also verified. if water is coming out of the drain during these field inspections. To
date, no water has been reported coming out of the drain and, as you will see on Table 1, the water
levels have almost always been within one foot of the drain elevation. Our first month of monitoring
was in December 2007; since then we have submitted 3 quarterly reports (Dec-Feb, Mar-May, Jun-
Aug). This report shows data for the remaining months of September through November 2008. For
these three months, all water levels have been within one foot of the drain. Table 1 shows the
complete data set from Dec 2007 to November 2008.
Part of our monitoring plan was to alert the DRMS within 48 hours if we- obtained a water level
measurement greater than one foot above the top of the drain line for 3 consecutive months at any of
the monitoring. Well locations. We did not have to notifiy the DRMS during this timeframe. Only .
one well (MW1) ever showed any water level measurements greater than one foot above the drain
and those. measurements were not constant. One "high" water level was shown in January and then
another one in April. However, the water levels went back down between these readings and in
general this well reported water levels less than one foot above the drain. level:
1499 West 120th Avenue, Suite 200 (303) 452-6611 Fax (303) 452-2759
Denver, Colorado 80234-2759 www.applegategroup.corn
