DRMS needs the following additional
information before we can provide a decision on the NOI:
1) Adequacy review #4 requested that the applicant provide a geologic map of the mine and
surrounding areas that shows all geologic and lithologic units and all possible geologic structures
that could act either as conduits or barriers to ground water flow. Please provide the requested
map.
2) Adequacy review #4 requested a map or maps that show to the satisfaction of the Division the
presence or lack of interconnection with workings of other mines outside the surface footprint of
the NOI area of work. On the map of the mine workings provided in your response of October
12, a drift (tunnel) is shown that leads in a northwesterly direction away from the Freighter's
Shaft and is open-ended, suggesting connection with additional underground workings off site.
Please describe the underground workings that are located in that direction, and please plot on a
USGS topographical map or equivalent describing or identifying any connections to surface
openings and provide description of the conditions of the opening(s), e.g., intact, collapsed,
sealed, etc.
3) Applicant has proposed the installation of removable shaft covers before commencement of
prospecting activities to avoid the necessity of posting financial warranty for shaft safeguarding.
Applicant must provide verification that these structures have been installed to the approval of
the Division, not merely a commitment that they will be, before the NOI can be approved.
Applicant should refer to the document "General Bid Specifications" for guidelines on how to
install shaft covers that can be used for temporary access and later converted to permanent
covers.
