The dike will be constructed using off-highway truck to transport and spread the
material in its final location. The dike will be shape using a D-7 dozer. Compaction
will be achieved by rolling the embankment with the loaded trucks. Compaction
report will be presented to the Division during the construction of the dike.
2. The stability of the dike will be achieved by the compaction of the embankment.
The dike will be 12 feet wide at the top with less than three feet of water against it
in most locations during the 100-year event, so stability should not be a problem.
The dike will be separated from the river by the width of the undisturbed area,
approximately 150 feet, where the velocities are in the order of 2 to 4 feet per
second as compared to 7 to 9 for the main channel. The dike will be monitored
during high flow event and any problem area found will be repaired.
3. At the present time, it seems to be the consensus of all the parties involved that the
dike should be left as a permanent structure, so unless there is a change in this
opinion, we will leave it in place.
If you have any additional questions, please call me.
Sincerely,
Edward J Se e, P.E.
