The proposed revision appears to be a straight forward request to extend the
existing dike along the river to the east. The application also requests a change in the mining phase sequence
mining. Phase II and then proceeding to Phase V. A review of the application has revealed a few issues and
clarifications to address.
1) Please specify what construction methods will be used to construct the dike and present to this office soil
compaction reports for each phase of dike construction.
2) What methods of dike stabilization will be implemented prior to vegetative success? It is important to
achieve dike stability prior to the 2009 run off event.
3) Please clarify whether or not the dike is proposed to be a temporary or permanent structure. If the
structure is temporary please submit the reclamation methods to be used and an estimate of the cost to
reclaim the structure.
The decision date for this application has been set for October 8, 2008 provided all issues have been addressed.
To allow adequate time for staff review the requested information must be received by October 6, 2008. If the
requested information is not received by October 6, 2008, the application may be denied. If the deadline of
October 6, 2008 cannot be met, the applicant should request an extension of the decision date.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety, Grand
Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, telephone no. 970.241.2042.
Sincerely,
Travis Marshall
Environmental Protection Specialist
Cc: Steve Shuey, DRMS
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
