Box X2059
Canon City, Colorado 81212
RE: Twin Pines ~2 i4ine (Permit C-058-83)
Oear htr. Reed:

I have reviewed the December 1, 1988 biannual hydrologic monitoring report
submitted by you in response to permit stipulations 1 and 2. Witty the
exceptions of steadily increasing Sodium Adsorption Patio (SAR) and dissolved
fluoride values in well TP-W1, it appears that mining in the area is having
minimal impact on around water quality and quantity. However, an SAR value
of 25 presents a "Very High" alkali hazard for irrigation water according to
the U. S. Salinity Laboratory. Additionally, 7..6 mg/1 dissolved fluoride
(again in TP-W1) exceeds the Primary Drinking idater Standard of 1.4 to
2,4 mg/1, viven the small permitted area, the effect on basinwide water
quality should be negligible. All other water quality parameters appear to
fall witnin acceptable limits in both wells.
The Twin Pines ~2 mine is having no perceptible effect on the water level or
water quality of the Cal dirola well. As you have discussed with Jim Stevens,
it is therefore appropriate to apply fora Technical Revision to the permit
proposing to discontinue monitoring of the Cal dirola well. Enclosed with this
letter is a Revision Application needed to initiate this process.
215 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel. (303) 866-3567
