West Elk Coal Com~y, Inc.
Post Olllce Box 591
Somerset, Colorado 81434
Telephone 303 929 5015
July 28, 1983
Mined Land Reclamation Division
Colorado Dept. of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St. Room 423
Denver, CO 80203
III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
I

~c~ i~t~J
Attn: Mr. James A. Pendleton P.1!N~~ti_;~,ivC+RECLA~N.'IF',I!i;N
Colo. Gept. of Natural Pes! urce~
Dear Mr. Pendleton:
Enclosed please find a 1" = 100' surface map of the
Mt. Gunnison No. 1 Mine. This map shows the location
of the "slide" or slump locations on the property.

At this time we have had consultants looking at these
slumps who have pointed out several possible altern-
atives for stabilizing them with respect to future
movement.
We had the area flown this spring and have just re-
ceived the topographic maps from that flight. The
consultants will use these maps to design the most
cost effective stabilization method for us.
Our consultants estimate a four to seven week time
period to do the design work. This makes it impos-
sible to meet your July 31st deadline for submitting
the individual remedial measures to you. However,
we will send you this information as soon as it is
complete.
I believe the size and location of these slumps do
pose potential operating problems for us should
they move again next spring. However, 2 do not
feel they pose any potential problem with respect to
the health or safety of our employees or to the gen-
eral public.
If you have any questions please call.
Since ly„"
~~ ~~
Craig Hansen /
Chief Engineer
CGH/kb
Enclosure
ARC 6027
