SPRING AND SEEP SURVEY
INTRODUCTION
In 1984 WFC initiated a monitoring program to assess the
significance of springs and seeps within a one (1) mile area of the
New Elk and Golden Eagle permit boundaries. WFC originally
identified nine (9) areas which fell within the one mile area and
conducted a survey of these during the 1984 growing season (May
through October) . - Upon review of the 1984 data the frequency of
monitoring was reduced to once per growing season during the month
of August for these nine locations.
During 1988, in anticipation of a permit area expansion at the
Golden Eagle Mine, 18 additional locations were included in the
monitoring program to assess these resources and incorporate the
data into a permit area revision. This report presents the results
of the surveys conducted at the original nine(9) locations and the
incorporated eighteen (18) locations for the years 1984 through
1989 .
METHODS
During the Spring and Seep Survey each location was visited.
Measurements of pH, conductivity and temperature were made using
a Hydro Lab Model 4000 field sampling kit. Flow of each spring and
seep was visually estimated.
RESULTS
Results of the preliminary inventory and locations of all
springs and seeps are presented in Table 1 and Figure 1 . Data for
each location monitored is presented in Tables 2 through 19 .
{
