Mineral County. CO -Lower Tailings Pond Remediation Summary
Report
Dear Mr. Sorenson:
As discussed and agreed in our meeting in your offices on April 24, 1996, enclosed please find
one (1) copy of a report prepared by P.M. De Dycker, Associates regarding documentation of
seepage remediation activities undertaken in the early 1980's on the project lower tailings pond
facility. Please note that I have taken the liberty of providing D. Holmer of the Water Quality
Control Division a copy as well, pursuant to earlier conversations with WQCD.
During the meeting, it was agreed that the summary report has adequatey addressed several
items (as detailed on page 2 of the report), that were identified in our meeting in early January,
1996. More specifically, items #1,2,and 3 are deemed to be addressed in sufficient detail,
however, more information is needed to address the issues raised by items # 4 and 5 (water
sources that may be potentially affected by seepage and upgradient and downgradient ground-
waterquality at the Upper and Lower tailings facilities).
We will be developing a proposal in the near future to address the remaining two issues which
will address the issue of whether the reclaimed tailings facilities have the potential to impact
current or future beneficial uses of ground-water.
Please call if you have any questions after review of the report. I look forward to further
communications and will contact you for arranging a meeting when we have a set of proposal
options developed for consideration.
Very Truly Yours,
~9~r~
cc: D.
