M-88-112
Dear Larry:
Enclosed are three copies of the responses to comments on the Reclamation
Evaluation Report for the San Luis tailings facility. Along with the responses to
comments, we aze including a copy of the report entitled "Investigation mf Prediction
Techniques for Acid Mine Drainage". This study was performed by Coastech Research
Inc. for the Canada Centre for Mineral and Energy Technology, Energy, Mines and
Resources Canada. The study was performed to evaluate the prediction techniques for acid
generation of mine waste materials against actual field conditions. In addition, we are
enclosing a copy of the publication "Chemistry and Treatment of Cyanidation Wastes" by
Dr. Adrian Smith and Dr. Terry Mudder for the Division's library. This publication is
considered to be the most up to date publication on cyanide chemistry and treatment
methodologies.
As we have discussed with the Division, BMRI recently completed additional
testing of the tailings material. Three holes were completed in the lower disposal area.
Two of the holes were completed to a depth of 55 feet or approximately 38 feet into the
AVR deposited tailings. The third hole met with refusal at approximately 25 feet or 7.5
feet into the AVR deposited tailings. Limited pore water samples were obtaihed from the
samples and will be tested for water quality with weak acid dissociable cyanide levels of
primary interest, followed by metals, if enough sample is available.
~L Ss..1- ~, ,
5670 GREENWOOD PLAZA BLVD.
