Dept. of i:a:wa~ ~~asources
Salt Creek Mining Company has compiled a record of water use at
its McClane Canyon and Munger Canyon Mines for 1982-83. During
1982, Salt Creek mined its McClane Canyon site and Munger Canyon
was idle.
McClane Mine began 1962 with an unknown amount of water in its
No. 5 and 6 entries inby spad #172 (see the attached map). Mining
was occuring in entries 1 through 4 which were dry. As mining
progressed to the north east, water was encountered near spad
number 201. The water seeped through the floor at an unknown
rate and was pumped to sump number 1. In July, 98,658 gallons
of water were discharged to McClane Creek from sump number 2 to
allow a connection between entries 4 and 5. In mid September,
Salt Creek began pumping water to its sediment pond in P1cClane
Canyon.
Salt Creek ceased production at McClane Canyon in January 1983,
and began maintenance work at Munger Canyon. water was trucked
from McClane Mine to Munger to supply roadway and bolter water.
Impacts to groundwater during the upcoming year will be slight.
Salt Creek will pump water from the McClane Canyon Mine and consume
a portion of that water at D4unger Canyon Mine. Water stored
underground at McClane Canyon Mine will probably reach equilibrium
with groundwater inflow and pumping may become unnecessary.
