(Colowyo) is submitting the First Quarter 1996 Dischazge Monitoring Report
(DMR) to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Water Quality Control Division
'~ ~ (WQCD).
During the First Quarter 1996 there were multiple discharges from many ponds regulated by the CDPS. All
of the regulated discharges made at Colowyo within the first quarter have been discussed with WQCD
personal. On April ]0, Kathleen Sullivan with the WQCD reviewed a DRAFT form of the data to be
included on the first quarter DMR. In accordance with the WQCD's direction, the highest 30 day average
va]ue is expressed on the DMR form in the "average" column. Because of the multiple discharges made
within the first quarter and the format of the DMR report, Colowyo is including a summary page of analytical
data for all discharges made during the 5rst quarter. A monthly narrative is also included to help the
Industrial Enforcement Engineer during the review of the report.
January
Outfall OOIA -Sampling of this outfall on November 11, 1995 showed elevated total iron, total suspended
solids and settleable solids (exempt). To verify these analyses Colowyo did additional sampling. January
9, 1996 the manual dewatering system was opened to allow for sampling of the dischazge on January 10.
Colowyo gathered two samples within a couple of minutes of each other. The analytical data confirmed the
elevated total iron level. The total suspended solids level was drastically reduced. Colowyo did not sample
for settleable solids because the parameter did not apply. For reporting purposes of the DMR the January
10 analytical data was averaged.
~l ?
_-~
