Cattany
Division DireROr
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division has reviewed Kerr Coal Company's 2002 Annual Hydrology Report (AHR)
and Annual Reclamation Report (ARR) for the Marr Mine. Both reports aze acceptable
as submitted.
The 2002 AHR was well organized and EFCI did a good job at collecting and reporting
the required monitoring data. The frequency of data collection for surface water and
groundwater is generally incompliance with the approved monitoring plan contained in
the permit document. With only one minor exception, EFCI obtained all required water
level measurements and samples for laboratory analysis from groundwater monitoring
locations. It appears that one quarterly sample was not collected and reported for Well
AP-1 in April 2002. It was also noted that Wells 79-3 and SP-Ol aze not shown on the
Mine Area Monitoring Stations Map contained in the 2002 AHR. There were no
recorded dischazges from any of the sediment ponds during the 2002 water year.
The major reclamation activity at the Marc Mine during 2002 was the plugging and
sealing of old exploration holes and alluvial monitoring wells at the site. All plugging
and abandonment work was successfully completed in October 2002. No backfilling or
re-grading was conducted in 2002. Two small azeas were interseeded during 2002 to
enhance vegetative growth.
The Division has no further comments regarding the 2002 AHR and 2002 ARR.
