It is located just northwest of the mine
waste pile at the SM-18 mine, the site agreed upon in a field meeting with Division of
Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (DAMS) personnel- A map showing the location of
the lysimeter is included as Figure 1.
Following the installation of the lysimeter attempts to collect samples were begun on a
regulaz basis. To date there has been no success in collecting any water samples from
this lysimeter. On two separate occasions a couple of drops of water collected on the end
of the lysimeter tubing, but not enough water has been collected to sample. A
spreadsheet showing the dates of sampling and the results of those sampling efforts is
also included as Table I.
In summazy to date there has been no leachate showing up in the lysimeter located
adjacent to the SM-18 mine waste dump. Consequently T feel that the ultra conservative
appzoach that has been taken by Cotter Corporation shows that there is minimal potential
for contamination of the lower groundwater in this azea.
If you have further questions regarding these issues, please call meat Cotter's Nucla
office, 970-864-7347.
Respectfully,
~~ ~~~
Glen Williams
Manager of Mining
Cotter Corporation
dmoSM-IA - 1 -
CotferCorporation • West Slope Operations
P.O.
