_ LING READY-MIX CONCRETE~O.
STERLING, COLORA00 80731
February 22, 1982
Mined Land Reclamation Division
1313 Sherman, Room 423
Denver, CO 80203
Re Annual Report - Riverside Pit, Logan County
MLR File No. 76-56
Gentlemen:
~~I ~I~II~II~II~~ ~I~
Mining activity has decreased and fallen behind the estimates
in the original mining plan and timetable. The area mined by
dredge this year previously was stripped of overburden, as shown
on Map Exhibit C of the original application. In 1981, as in
the previous year, the area mined did not include any land that
will be part of the final lake perimeter. Therefore, no reclama-
tion or slope grading in Phase I was required under the reclama-
tion plan.
The reclamation plan stipulates that reclamation will begin in
Phase II in 1982, but since mining is far from complete in this
part of Stage I, no reclamation will be started in 1982, A
- 'will be submitted prior to the'1'~38~. a>~>~1
report due ate in order to revise the estimated timetable.
Reference is made to MLRB Rules and Regulations, Section 2.41:
2.41 (1) Approximately 2.46 acres were stripped this year in
the north part of Stage I. Mining at lower depths of
water was conducted throughout the mining season. No
new land was affected by mining. See enclosed map.
After the spring flood of 1981 some work was necessary
along the northern limits of Lowline Ditch. Approxi-
mately 0.08 acres of land was disturbed in Stage I, and
about 200 feet of riprap and an overflow spillway were
installed on the east side of the northernmost part
of the ditch.
(2) No reclamation was required in 1981 under the approved
application.
(3) Tree planting was continued on 8,000 square feet along
the southwest side of the affected land. See map.
(4) Experimental tree plantings were continued. In April
1981, 40 Black Walnut trees were planted and 3 mature
Cedar trees were transplanted. In July 1981, 30 Cotton-
woods were transplanted in the southwest area. No addi-
tional tree planting is required until reclamation
starts on the north end of Stage I.
(5) The entire pit area was once a feedlot; no fertilizing
is desirable.
As noted in the Inspection Report dated November 5,
1981, the tree planting program has been moderately
successful; the Black Walnuts and Cottonwoods have had
