Lochhead
Exec wive Dneclor
M i~ha el B.long
Dnavon Dve~tu.
I have reviewed the surface water portions of the above referenced
annual hydrology report. My comments regarding groundwater issues
were forwarded to you earlier this year under separate cover. My
concerns regarding surface water at the Eagle Mines are itemized
below:
1) The PHC predicts that the effect of mine discharge and
Strip Pit discharge will be to increase the dissolved
solids during a low flow event in the river from 500 mg/L
to 570 mg/L and to increase SAR from 0.,5 to 2.8.
However, according to Tables 29 through 32, TDS has
exceeded the predicted increase (e.g., the ma~cimum TDS at
station WF-1 for 1994 was 2168 mg/L). On closer
inspection, it is evident that the maximum TDS value
reported for WF-1 does not occur on the d<Lta pages.
Please have the operator check the tables against the
data base for accuracy and make the appropriate
corrections.
Additionally, the SAR was not monitored during 1994. It
will be difficult to verify the predictions in the PHC
without SAR data.
2j Tables 29 and 31 show no values for the maximum total
recoverable iron. The operator should explain this.
If you or the operator have any questions, please call.
(No titubees de llamarme)
cc: Larry Routten
III IIIIIillllllllll
STATE OF COLORADO
