As the West
Elk Mine is an underground mine and the disturbed azea covers the life-of--mine facilities azea, no
permanent reclamation was completed during 2001, on the mine site. However, Minor Revision
No. 270, "Thermal Event" (MR-270), required that approximately 15 total acres of roads and
drill pads be permanently reclaimed, and that United States Forest Service (L1SFS) roads used in
conjunction with the emergency project be substantially reduced in width and degraded to 4-
whee] drive only road. During calendar yeaz 2001, MCC completed approximately 8.5 acres of
permanent reclamation, which included well abandonment, backfilling, grading, fertilizing,
seeding, and mulching of pad areas associated with MR-270. Approximately 6.5 acres in the
same area were reclaimed in calendar year 2000. Attached is a map showing the locations of
permanently reclaimed azeas associated with MR-270, completed in 2001.
MCC also completed approximately 3.0 acres of interim reclamation in areas associated with the
Methane Drainage Well projects located on United States Forest Service (LJSFS) lands.
Please call me if you have any questions.
Since ely,
~.
enry A.
