INTERNAL MEMO <br />TO: Dan Mathews 10 March 2004 <br />FROM: Jim Burnell <br />SUBJ: Roadside Mine 2003 Annual Hydrology Report <br />The Division has completed review of the 2003 Annual Hydrology Report from the <br />Roadside Mine. This review has been organized by comparing the results presented in <br />the report to the probable hydrologic consequences (PHC) section of the permit. <br />Also included this year is a commentary on the issue of "groundwater points of <br />compliance." This is an issue for which the Division is currently drafting a policy. This <br />will present the initial technical opinion of the reviewer concerning the identification of <br />points of compliance at the Roadside Mine. <br />Surface Water <br />PHC Prediction: Effects of minewater consumption and discharge on the quantity <br />of flow in the Colorado River will be negligible. <br />The AHR data support this prediction. <br />PHC Prediction: The effects of subsidence on flows in Rapid Creek and <br />Cottonwood Creek will be negligible. <br />The AHR data support this prediction. All subsidence is probably done since mining <br />beneath that area ceased years ago. <br />PHC Prediction: Discharges will increase the salinity of the Colorado River by 0.1 <br />to 0.2%. <br />The calculations int he AHR support this prediction. There was a 0.14 % increase <br />calculated in the AHR, a number which was consistent with the discharge through the <br />year. <br />PHC Prediction: There will be increased sedimentation due to the surface <br />disturbance. <br />None of the data refute this prediction, but there is nothing to directly support it. <br />
