(BMRI) - San Luis
DMG Permit No. M-88-112
Tailings Area Construction Activities
Week of November 1, 1993
Dear Mr. Oehler:
During the week of October 25, 1993, construction activities
were limited to final preparation of the compacted soil
liner along the East dike, installation of approximately 8
acres of synthetic liner by Serrot, placement of
approximately 2 acres of liner cover material on the North
dike, and stockpiling of liner cover material in the borrow
pit. BMRI has confirmed the Division's verbal approval to
upgrade the liner material from 40 mil VLDPE to 50-60 mil
VLDPE and waits formal written approval. The Division and
Water, waste, and Land visited the site on October 28.
Construction of the main embankment has been voluntarily
suspended by BMRI until the third party contractor is on-
line. Continuing the construction of the embankment this
fall is critical to the operation of the San Luis Project.
The following is a summary of construction activities for
the week of November 1, 1993:
-Complete the composite liner construction, weather
conditions pending.
-Continue stockpiling and placement of liner cover material
on the north side of the facility.
Settlement marker information is enclosed. The markers
continue to be surveyed daily. The survey results indicate
that the tailings are extremely stable with no differential
settlement.
Sincerely,
'I~Nonn~ ~'~`
Alana L.
