Disposal Area
LOCATION: Sec 36, R64W, 6th P.M.
Las Animas County, Co.
COMMENTS: The slopes have been disced and all the rills have
been removed. A inspection of the slopes surface material was
closely observed and a question is will this material be
satisfactory for growth of vegetation or will topsoil be required".
The western portion of the slopes appears to have a reasonable
amount of topsoil, but the eastern portion is in question. The
bottom of the disturbed area seems to be satisfactory.
The " U TYPE DIVERSION DITCH " as previously reported has been
completed. The GABION BASKETS placed into the ditch have been
tied together and are accepted, although placing of the baskets
was constructed poorly, leaving uneven edges and a somewhat bad
appearance. The upper (slope side) of the Gabion baskets does
not blend in grade wise with the slope of the hillside. As is,
this will retain the slope runoff water, not allowing the water
on to the Gabion Basket, which will run along the basket and
eventually under mine the Gabion. This will totally destroy the
value of the Gabion Wi;e Rock Basket.
There are no signs of water ponding or erosion. The winter season
has been very light in moisture downfall. No additional changes
to the previous report.
RECOMMENDATION: That a study of the area listed above , which
may require topsoil , be made by a qualified soil labatory.
Then completed as recommended to seed and mulch the area. The
Gabion Wire Rock Basket Diversion Ditch needs to have the top of
the basket the same elevation as the original slope, which would
allow the runoff onto the basket ditch and not along it. Recommend
this correction be made as soon as possible.
PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS STATEMENT
this report was prepared hereon
of my knowledge and information.
.~- ZO- %~
Date
9869
I, John H.
