Review of the Orchard Valley Mine Annual Hydrologic Report ground water
monitoring has been completed. Analysis of data presented in the AHR resulted
in the following conclusions:
1) The water level in the shallow monitoring wells did not exhibit
significant changes during 1986.
2) No significant changes in the water chemistry of the shallow monitoring
wells occurred during 1986. Total dissolved solids (TDS) concentrations
for these wells were generally within ten percent of one another for water
quality samples taken during 1986.
3) No significant changes in the quantity or quality of springs monitored by
CWI occurred during 1986.
4) No mine inflow report was prepared for 1986 because of a June 1, 1986 mine
fire that caused the closure of the Orchard Valley Mine.
5) No significant changes in the water quality or quantity in the bedrock
monitoring wells was noticed.
The following recommendations are made regarding the presentation of
information in CWI's AHR:
1) A graphical presentation of ground water level data would allow for easy
identification of changes and trends in ground water quantity information.
2) A graphical presentation of ground water TDS data would allow changes and
trends in ground water quality to be readily identified.
