Long
Division Director
Re: Foidel Creek Mine, C-82-056, 1998 Subsidence Reports
Dear Mr. Mills:
The Division has reviewed Twentymile Coal Company's First and Second Half 1998 Subsidence Reports for
compliance with permit C-82-056 and Rule 2.05.6(6). The following comments are a result of the Division's
review:
1. The Division requested that Twentymile Coal Company submit visual inspection monitoring sheets for
Routt County Road No. 33, the Union Pacific track, and the two power lines with submittal of the
subsidence reports. Upon review of the visual observation report sheets submitted with the 1998
Subsidence reports, the Division considers the visual monitoring reports acceptable. The Division
recommends the visual monitoring reports be maintained on file at the mine and available to the Division
upon request. If these reports are maintained and available at the mine site, Twentymile Coal Company is
not required to submit these visual monitoring report sheets with each semi-annual subsidence report.
2. The Division found several computation "busts" in the "Cum" data field in Table 1.Please review Table 1
entries for Stations 111, 112 and 113. Please correct and resubmit Table 1.
Twentymile Coal Company did not provide surface hydrology detail regarding the four "sag-ponds"
formed in Foidel Creek . Is this information discussed in detail in Foidel Creek's Annual Hydrology
Report? If this is not included in the AHR, please include a discussion of the surface hydrology of the
ponding in the Subsidence reports.
The Division finds that the 1998 subsidence reports have been presented in compliance with the permit
requirements. Subsidence data from stations 11 I, 112 and l 13 indicate that the subsidence observed oveF
Longwall Panel 6R, Gateroad 7R and Gateroad 6R are in keeping with observations above previously subsided
panels, and fall within the predictions within the permit document. Please provide responses to items no. 2 and 3.
Please call should you have any questions.
Sincere) ~~~ ~.
Ja H.,Bi ns ,d (~ ~"
nvironmen I Protection pecialist
Cc: ernandez, DMG and Jim Pendleton, DMG
C:/jhb/C820S6/98subsid.doc
