Gunnison No. 1 Mine, C-80-007
Dear Ms. Welt:
The Division reviewed the two quarterly reports submitted by West Elk Coal
Company. These reports contain both compaction test and surface stability
monument survey results. In both cases the results appear acceptable. In
both cases, the compaction testing, performed on September 27 , 1989 and
November 14, 1989, determined that the waste was being compacted to
specification. The survey results of both reports demonstrate that the facial
slope of the waste pile remains stable. The only glitch appears to be an
apparent 0.55 foot rise of monument B-8, between October and December of
1989. We believe this could plausibly be explained by shallow frost activity.
If you have any questions , please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
A%, Matthew S: Ha. es
Reclamation D ecialist
t
MSH/ern
4832F
