Dear Mr. Settle:
The enclosed public comment letter, responding to the above captioned gravel pit application, was
received by DMG within the designated public comment period. Please provide a written
response, indicating how you wish to address the comments stated in the April 12, 1999 letter
from the Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOWI•
Grand Junction Pipe and Supply is commended for proposing apost-mining land use designated as
wildlife habitat. With this in mind, DMG encourages you to incorporate the DOW
recommendations, and detailed implementation specifications, into the proposed mining and
reclamation plans. As required by Rule 3.1.10(1), the site will not be considered to be
successfully reclaimed until areas to be revegetated sustain a diverse, effective, and long-lasting
vegetative cover that is capable of self-regeneration without continued dependence on irrigation,
soil amendments or fertilizer, and is at least equal in extent of cover to the natural vegetation of
the surrounding area.
