~ III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII M
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
David H. Gelches, Executive Director
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHELTON, Director
Richard D. Lamm
Governor
December 23, 1985
Mr. Albert C. Ruckman
Western Colorado Testing, Inc.
551 25 1/2 Road
Suite B-101
Grand Junction, Colorado 81505
Re: Parkerson Construction Co. - File No. M-85-219
Dear Mr. Ruckman:
I have reviewed this application for adequacy and have the following questions
and comments that must be addressed in detail at least 7 days prior to the
January 22-23, 1986 meeting of the Mined Land Reclamation Board:
A. Exhibit B - Mining Plan
1. The staff understands that the depth of overburden varies from 0 to 15
feet. Prior to excavating gravel from portions of the site having
overburden/topsoil, the operator must first strip the overburden/topsoil
and stockpile this material for future replacement. During all phases of
mining, the operator must have sufficient topsoil stockpiled on site to
achieve the desired reclamation.
B. Exhibit D - Wildlife, Water, Vegetation, Soils
1. Please describe the depth at which groundwater is expected to be
encountered.
2. The operator has indicated that a pond exists at this location.
Please describe the size and depth of the pond and the origination of the
water.
3. The operator has indicated that run-off from the pit area will be
impounded to prevent siltation of the drainage. Please describe this
impoundment in greater detail.
4. Will a permanent body of water be created?
5. Please describe the drainage to and from the pit area. How will the
operator control erosion at the point where drainage enters and exits the
Pit?.
6. Please provide the Division of Wildlife Mine Impact Assessment as soon
as it is available.
7. Please provide a site specific vegetation inventory.
4'23 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel. (303) 866-3567
