n) ~II1111111111111
999
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
David H. Getches. Executive Director
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHELTO N, Dlroctor
Richard D. Lamm
Governor
February 2, 1984
Mr. Lowell E. Jarratt
Elk Creek Gold Mines Company
851 Kendall Street
Lakewood, Colorado 80214
RE: Mackey Mine - File No. M-84-013
Dear Mr. Jarratt:
We have reviewed the above application for adequacy and have the following
questions and comments which are intended to help bring the plan in o
compliance with the Mined Land Reclamation Act. Please respond on
point-by-point basis in the order given below.
For the purposes of this application, it is assumed that the ermit area
consists of the graded work area, waste rock dump and ventlla ton site.
2. The plan and map should Identify the location where dump rack 111 be
placed. Waste rock should be placed 1n a location which would not
threaten contamination to dratnageways (should additional space be
required for waste rock disposal).
3. Topsoil should be salvaged from any additional disturbances r suiting
from expansion of surface work areas.
4. There should be a plan included for proper sealing of the aditonce
mining has been completed, (including the air vent/escape way bf the old
shaft).
5. We would recommend that the proposed seed mixture be applied aft the
following rates:
Thickspike Wheatgrass - 14 lbs
Canadian Bluegrass - 2 lbs
Total 16 lbs
6. We recommend the use of mulch (two tons hay/acre, mechanically anchored
to prevent wind blowing) on areas to be revegetated.
7. Minor grading should be included for areas of the mine bench ( ide
slopes) as well as the waste rock dump and short access road ( ipping).
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
