~~-~ Urt 93 - 08 0
999
Dear Sirs,
December 21, 1993
I received a certified letter concerning clay mining
at the Calhan Clay Pit in Section 8 ~ 9 by Summit Brick S, Tile.
I own property in section 16 which does border the proposed area
according to what information I was able to glean from the County
Clerk ~ Recorder's office.
I personally do not want them or anyone else mining on my
property. There is no mention of any compensation. My property
is a choice piece of pasture land. If this permit is issued, the
Summit Brick S Tile Co. may perhaps in years to come want to
destroy my land by digging. The permit they're asking for is
for the next 47 years. That's beyond my expected lifetime.
If this permit is granted does that tie my hand that I'm
not able to use or rent my pasture land? What compensation is
there for them digging on my property? Will they pay the taxes
on said property or just destroy it and I have to pay?
What if I or a future heir/owner should desire to build perhaps,
a house on said property; what then; would the house be levelled?
As for reclamation, once the land is destroyed it's never
back to it's original God-created state. I~ve seen the other
Calhan Clay Pit south of our property. There is ro reclamation,
no trees, no grass, no shrubs, no pasture, just a big clay pit;
an eye-sore such as the "scar on the mountain" near Colorado
Springs, actually worse.
Please do not allow Summit Brick ~ Tile or any other
company to dig clay on ~ property. Clay is part of the
soil not a mineral.
Thanks for your consideration in this matter. Please
reply soon.
~-~~ •l S~
fa ~3~~1t
~tisw~ g
iZlz~j lR s .
- ~:.~
.. _._~ % IJ ~.~

Sincerely,
~~~ ~~~
Ruth Morehead
2623 E.
