File ;~77-376 _ _ ,.
Dear Mr, Schmieding: Cdr.:) . a .._._.:J :.~., ... ~_
I am sorry I will be unable to attend the hearing on the Canon
Dolomite Quarry application, but I urge that the Board will degy
the application or at least exert severe restraints upon it.
I had a meeting yesterday with Pir. Curtis Miller in regard to
the blasting damage to ~6' home and the scarring of the mountains.
He told me the land would show no scars in twenty years. I will be
gone in twenty years and I do not care to look at them for the rest
of rtlY days. Besides, this is nearly desert country and I doubt if
the scars will be gone in fifty years. Canon City is a tourist city
with the Royal Gorge being one of the stateslarge tourist attrac-
tions. Highway 50 is the road to the Gorge and every tourist will
be aware of the devastation of our beautiful mountains.
I am attaching a copy of my earlier letter of November 20,1977
as I feeleven more strongly that the heavy blasting is ruining pro-
perty in Canon City, Mr, Miller denies this ofcourse, but I feel sure
he knows it is true,
The people of Canon City will be grateful for any assistance
you can give us.
Yours sincerely,
/-
Frances K.
