999
,T 2 1978
September 14, 1978
Alined Land Reclamation Board
1313 Sherman Street, Rare 723
Denver, Colorado 80631
Dear Sirs:
It has cane to my attention that Bestway Paving Company has applied
for a mining permit. Naturally, my first question was concerned
with the safety and welfare of the neighborhood, of which I am a
part. The plan which has been outlined is certainly not sufficient
to insure that we will not be subjected to high air contaminates,
increased noise levels, etc.
I also want to direct your attention to the enclosed publicity
from the march 30, 1978 Greeley Tribune, and then to page 27 of
the reclamation plan concerning compacting during backfilling.
I do not believe that their mining plan calls for compacting, and
it would seen that that would certainly be necessary if they
intend to put a housing development in that area. However, perhaps
the plans have been changed since the county meetings, but if so,
has the county been so informed?
The same article which carried the above mentioned picture says,
"Hill said that dust and noise studies have already been completed
at the site and that the company has taken measures around the
boundaries of the site to assure residents the area won't be
affected by the mining operation." I would like to know why, then,
on page 22 of the mining plan it is stated, "No detailed noise
studies have been made on or around the site. . ."
All of the above make me believe that a very, very careful look must
be taken by your group before issuing a permit which could so
drastically affect the health, safety and welfare of Colorado resi-
dents.
Sincerely, (n(
nirs, James Peter4
4l 36th Avenue (J
Greeley, Colorado
