iii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii <br />• Doc Date:12/11/2001 <br />S I~ 2.04.8 Climatological Information <br />The closest active reporting station to the mine plan area is at <br />Pueblo, Colorado, which is about 25 miles East of the area. <br />The climate of the area which the GEC Minerals, Inc. operation is <br />located is mild and semi-arid. Sun shines for more than 300 days <br />per year and the area generally does not have foggy weather. <br />Visibility is often as much as 100 miles. Summer temperatures <br />seldom rise over 90° F, and hot, humid weather is virtually unknown. <br />Below 0? temperatures are quite uncommon during the winter months. <br />The prevailing wind is from the West and is moderate in velocity. <br />Precipitation. The mean annual precipitation as recorded at Pueblo <br />and Canon City and 11.5 and 12.7 inches, respectively. Over 70% of <br />• its precipitation falls between the months of April and September, <br />as rain. Summer rain storms for the most part result in the after- <br />noon from thunderstorm activity. The mean monthly precipitation <br />will be provided by the S.O.A.P, contractor. <br />Snow falls normally in the winter time, but accumulation is seldom <br />significant. Average seasonal snowfall for Canon City is about 37 <br />inches. Normally, the snow melts the day, or within a few days <br />after it occurs. <br />Temperatures. Temperatures which are normally experienced in the <br />GEC Minerals operation area range from approximately 0° to as high <br />as 100° F. These high temperatures are accompanied by low humidity. <br />Cold winter temperatures are moderated by Chinook winds. Determination <br />of the mean monthly temperature will be made by the S.O.A. P. contractor. <br />Wind. Information from the Pueblo and Canon City weather gathering <br />stations indicate a prevailing Southeast flow during the summer and <br />• a Westerly flow throughout the remainder of the year. The average <br />yearly wind velocity is about 9 miles per hour. Normally, the area <br />is generally shielded from the downslope wind conditions from the <br />West, primarily due to local topography. <br />2.04-16 - <br />
