iii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
• Doc Date:12/11/2001
S I~ 2.04.8 Climatological Information
The closest active reporting station to the mine plan area is at
Pueblo, Colorado, which is about 25 miles East of the area.
The climate of the area which the GEC Minerals, Inc. operation is
located is mild and semi-arid. Sun shines for more than 300 days
per year and the area generally does not have foggy weather.
Visibility is often as much as 100 miles. Summer temperatures
seldom rise over 90° F, and hot, humid weather is virtually unknown.
Below 0? temperatures are quite uncommon during the winter months.
The prevailing wind is from the West and is moderate in velocity.
Precipitation. The mean annual precipitation as recorded at Pueblo
and Canon City and 11.5 and 12.7 inches, respectively. Over 70% of
• its precipitation falls between the months of April and September,
as rain. Summer rain storms for the most part result in the after-
noon from thunderstorm activity. The mean monthly precipitation
will be provided by the S.O.A.P, contractor.
Snow falls normally in the winter time, but accumulation is seldom
significant. Average seasonal snowfall for Canon City is about 37
inches. Normally, the snow melts the day, or within a few days
after it occurs.
Temperatures. Temperatures which are normally experienced in the
GEC Minerals operation area range from approximately 0° to as high
as 100° F. These high temperatures are accompanied by low humidity.
Cold winter temperatures are moderated by Chinook winds. Determination
of the mean monthly temperature will be made by the S.O.A. P. contractor.
Wind. Information from the Pueblo and Canon City weather gathering
stations indicate a prevailing Southeast flow during the summer and
• a Westerly flow throughout the remainder of the year. The average
yearly wind velocity is about 9 miles per hour. Normally, the area
is generally shielded from the downslope wind conditions from the
West, primarily due to local topography.
2.04-16 -
