Box 1269
Montrose, Colorado 81401
Mr. David Calhoon, Chairman
Board of County Commissioners
Ouray County Courthouse
Ouray, CO 81427
Dear Mr. Calhoon,
rE
,..; ,'
IN REPLY REPER TO
3600
c161) .

We have received notice from Mr. David G. Wood of The Citizens State
Bank of Ouray that Ouray County has established a 52,000 escrow in
lieu of a performance bond for their operations at the Ridgway
gravel pit. Your Free Use Permit Application (C-19378) was, therefore,
approved and signed by Marlyn Jones, District Manager of the Montrose
District BLM office. A copy of the signed permit is enclosed for
your records.
At this time I would like to emphasize to you that the BLM will be
conducting regular compliance inspections of your operations at the
Ridgway pit. The objective of these inspections will be to monitor
and document your use of the area in order to determine compliance
with the mining plan and attached stipulations. Should your operations
fail to conform to the approved plan and stipulations, we will
notify you immediately in writing. Such notice will specify which
aspects of your operation are unsatisfactory and the date by which
these conditions must be corrected. On that date a BLM official
will reinspect the site to determine that the situation has been
corrected.
I understand that during your February 10, 1977 meeting with Betsy
Daniel several questions were raised on the attached stipulations.
The first concerned the removal of vegetation from the area. After
discussion in this office, we believe that the attached stipulation
(that no more vegetation be removed) should stand. In the future if
it should become necessary for you to remove more vegetation iri
order to continue your operations, this office can authorize the
removal in writing. However; it will be necessary for a BLM
official to be present when the vegetation is removed.
P~JOIUTIp~,~
i
U CZ
m
u+~,'TC! 9,~~z
--- - Y,
RECE1\/ED
GU G 1. 7 1978
MINED LAN^ RECLP.UI;~T~ON
Colo.
