02/28/1994 13 24 FROM US EPR - RB WTR MGT DIU TO 98328106 P.02
. ~ • III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII •
Division of Minerals and Geology
Mined Land Reclamation Board
Mr, James Dily
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Topic: Comments and concems in regards to the United Companies of Mesa
County, Inc., application fora 112 permit ,asphalt plant, and concrete
production in Montrose County.
From: Citizens to Preserve Scenic 550 South
c% Todd J. Richardson -Spokesman
21700 Hwy. 550 S. _
.. ... _
Montrose, CO 81401
(303) 249-5741
Dr, Mr. Dilly,
AS stated in the topic heading, this letter is being submitted to you and the "Board'
in response to the notification to adjacent land owners and public notices in the Daily
Press (of Montrose) by United Companies. We hope that the following text of this letter
will warrant a hearing / or a review by the 'Board' over the Ct)t1Cem5 outlined by local
citizens of the Montrose community and of our group of local land owners.
The following oulined concerns stem from a hub of 18 surrounding landowners who
are the spokespersons of a large and growing number a Montrose County residents
from whom you will be hearing from personally in the near future.
a. Loss of Scenic value
t . We are boated t 0 miles notth from the entrance fa a scenic byway
2. Surrounding businesses solely rely on the majesty and beauty Of our
area attradbrtis (i.e. campground, bed & breakfast, outdoor adventures
a'~d outfitting, chuck wagon. and reL-eais). . _. .-.
3. Uncompahgre River walk and bike (rght -oi-way has been
obtained and planned over a year from Unked's application). This
path passes directly in front of the proposed mine/&sphalV concrete
lard.
B. Diminished Property Values
We are In the most hlghry requested area o1 the Uncompahgre valley
real estate. Values are at the highest ever, due to the area's Ottarattar of
agriculture, majestic views of the Sen Juan Mountains, the Cimerrons, the
Uncompahgre Plateau, and the Uncompahgre River.. The proposed "out- of-
charaeter' operation will have Vemendously adverse effects'during
operation' on real estate and quality of living.
