No significant surface drainages would be
damaged in the phase of mining which is outlined in the permit application.
The change in topography will, however, create new drainage patterns.
There's good ground cover in some places, consisting of grasses (needle b thread,
Indian ricegrass, weeds) and huge old juniper trees. The ridge has very
little overburden on it, and is composed mostly of limestone outcrop.
We stopped by the mill site which is near Highway 40. The mill would be
within an old gravel pit as well as on some virgin ground. Some topsoil
could possibly be retrieved from the edges of the old pit when this area is
redisturbed. This is quite level ground, mostly sagebrush. No drainages, at
this point, will be disturbed here.
