McArdle:
9989 WEST 80TH AVENUE
ARVADA COLORA00 80004
3b3-423-7287
~~~~~ ~~~
NOV 1 1g83
RECi ti p TtO~ Dl~ SI~rJ
On behalf of our client Sterling Ready-tdix Concrete, Company Inc.
we will address your letter of November 3, 1986 to correspond with
the numbering system you used:
Exhibit B - Mining Plan.
1) From my site inspection it appears the available topsoil
averages 2 inches or less. This is a terrace deposit of
Rocky Flats Alluvium and is covered by lenses of topsoil, ie
the topsoil is not evenly dispersed over the site. The best
figure I can give you is 2,600 cubic yards.
2) That is correct, however i need to stress that this is not
topsoil/growth medium. Its purpose is to provide a root zone
of revegetation.
a. It will come from material left in the pit after mining is
complete. It may be material from the floor of the pit ie
ripped shale or will be derived from the material being sloped.
b. No stockpiling will be necessary as it is in-situ material.
c. There will be no need for stockpiles of this material.
d. This procedure was recommended by the SCS at Sterlings Ptertens
Pit II operation which is very similar to the pit.
3) we agree to this once the stockpiles are established and will
not be disturbed for extended periods of time ie 6 months or
longer.
4) This is correct however we disagree with your assessment that
benching in a sand and gravel operation is inappropriate.
Are 40 foot gravel high walls safe? We think not. It may not
have been clear that the benches are intended to allow mining
of two grades of material. The upper strata of the pit is a
dirty sand and gravel, it contains some clay and binder material
