Schmieding
Reclamation Specialist
D1ined Land Reclamation
1313 Sherman St.
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Greeley Sand and Gravel, Weld County, Application for
Mining and reclamation permit.
Dear Mr. Schmieding:
We are submitting a copy of an aerial photo of the land included
in the above referenced application. The yellow areas indicate
irrigated pasture and the green areas indicate irrigated farmed
land.
We have discussed your objections with the man who has farmed this
land for the past ten years, and feel confident the following
should satisfy the concern of the Division of Water Resources re-
garding evaporation.
The farm land presently under irrigation is approximately 80~.
Silage corn, used in feeding operations, is raised on approximately
40/ of the land and approximately 40~ is irrigated pasture for
cattle grazing. The pasture land requires approximately the same
amount of water as the corn. The remaining 20f of the farm does
not contain top soil conducive to the growth of ar>,y crop, as a re-
sult of the river having run through this section.
This farm land is under 550 shares of Boyd Irrigation which draws
water directly from the Cache La Poudre River and these shares are
non-transferable to ar>,y other property. This land has never re-
quired all the water alloted to it. The water normally used for
irrigation would be left in the river in the areas where gravel
would be extracted, thereby making available the water to satisfy
evaporati~{ loss.
C : wi
~'
~~~ ~J
J.
